The ASU School of Social Work is currently accepting proposals for the 22nd Annual Summer Institute for Behavioral Health. The theme of this year’s conference is Networks and Pathways.
The planned hybrid-style conference will be held in-person at the High-Country Conference Center in Flagstaff, Arizona from Tuesday, July 12th through Thursday, July 14th, 2022. The Behavioral Health Awards Gala will be held on the evening of Thursday, July 14th inside the Peaks Ballroom.
Summer Institute educational sessions may be attended remotely on the Zoom Meetings Platform concurrently and will be available for viewing for 30 days after the conference by attendees.
Please consider submitting presentations based around ground-breaking and impactful initiatives supported by evidence-based practice, research findings, or direct experiences related to care delivery during or after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Behavioral health of individuals and families remains the overarching focus of the Summer Institute. Presentations demonstrating creativity and innovation in the delivery of behavioral health care to diverse and under-represented members of the community are encouraged.
Application deadline is 5:00 pm (Mountain Standard Time) on Thursday, March 31st, 2022. Lead presenters will be notified of their presentation status on or prior to Thursday April 14th, 2022.
Please provide presentation materials (slides and handouts), as well as any content for the publication to ASU by June 15th, 2022. There will be no schedule or program changes made after this date. Content must be posted online and placed in the publication in advance. (Failure to meet this deadline may result in omissions online and in-print with regard to your presentation.)

When submitting your workshop proposals, please have the following information ready to enter:

Provide an educational experience that is inclusive of all attendees, unless explicitly explained in the program summary
Plan to attend the conference in-person
Register as a presenter for the 2022 conference using the provided discount code. Presenters will receive a complementary registration for the conference, and up to 2 co-presenters will be given a 50% discount code. Hotel, travel, and other expenses are not covered by the School of Social Work.
Share all conference communication with co-presenters (if applicable)
Materials will be published online prior to the conference (please be mindful of deadlines)
Submit PDFs of session handouts to be distributed digitally to session attendees
A “session monitor” will be present to manage program evaluation and monitor on-time program ending. Session content should accommodate for a 2-minute introduction and a 3-minute conclusion from a session monitor
Be aware sessions are recorded and will be available to attendees for a limited time
Be aware that presentations will be broadcast and recorded simultaneously on Zoom and available to conference attendees for 30 days.
Course materials will be posted to our website and be available indefinitely
Presentations need to be fact-based, but not necessarily data driven. Presenters are encouraged to consider alignment with the conference theme and focus on one or more of the following topical areas:

- Initiatives that your organization has implemented that improve care delivery
- Creative use and implementation of health analytics or research
- Ground-breaking population health management strategies
- Inventive models for workforce and leadership development
- Creative strategies for quality management/quality improvement initiatives
- Innovative approaches that improve the continuum of care
- Ways to address underserved populations and/or healthcare disparities
- Research that guides policy changes in social work or behavioral health
Community Partnerships
- Partnerships between governmental and non-governmental entities to stimulate innovation in behavioral health care and social work

For the 2022 conference, an emphasis will be placed on sessions that:
- Promote innovation and creativity in practice and collaboration.
- Address gaps in the continuum of care.
- Demonstrate new lessons learned in the implementation of evidence-based care and best practice.
- Provide a clear relationship and connection to behavioral health disorders.
- Address cultural diversity and serving underrepresented populations.
- Advance clinical initiatives to inform innovative and best practices.
- Research and/or programs that may be easily replicated
As you consider possible program submissions, try to also answer the following questions:
- Who is your audience?
- What do you have to offer the participants?
- How do we encourage the participants to think/do their work differently?
- How do we challenge participants to confront and overcome challenges?
- How do we help audience members perform their roles exceptionally well?
- How do we develop participants as exceptional professionals?
- How do we prepare participants to succeed now?
- How do we prepare participants to succeed in the future?
- How do we help participants see the work they perform as a catalyst to making our communities and the world a better place?
- What tangible outcomes should participants experience?
Keep in mind!
- Most of the attendees are experienced leaders and professionals, so start beyond the basics.
- Provide resources, handouts, and checklists for participants to utilize when they return to their organizations and jurisdictions
- Your program and language must be inclusive of all participants at the conference and clients/patients served by them and their organizations. Person-centered and non-pejorative language is required
- Research claims and data should be valid, reliable and relevant to the fields of behavioral health or healthcare
- Participants may enjoy interaction, learning from one another in small groups while sharing ideas from these discussions
- Do not use the time on anything unessential to the learning experience or learning outcomes.
- Don’t try to accomplish too many things in one session. Avoid creating content that is a “mile wide and an inch deep
- Please be mindful of the opportunities and limitations presented by the Zoom platform. We highly encourage any sort of interactivity, either by technological means (live surveys) or small group communications (breakout rooms). If you are uncomfortable with the platform, please let us know so we can ready the room monitor/host to your presentation needs.
