Applying for Graduation
You will apply for graduation through your MyASU. Each term has their own graduation priority deadline. Yes, you can still apply for graduation after that date, but there may be a late fee added to the process. Any inquiries regarding the graduation process (not the ceremonies, only the matriculation process) can be directed to [email protected].
The deadlines and graduation application link are under the My Programs box on your MyASU homepage.
Conferment & Matriculation Information
To appropriately gage your end of term processing, always refer to the ASU Academic Calendar to identify the start of the matriculation (degree conferral) process. Depending on which term you are completing your degree, you will want to identify the dates below.
Degree Matriculation (Degree posting or conferral):
- Conferment: The Registrar's Office needs a certain amount of time after final grades are submitted for your degree to confer ("matriculate" or "post" are used interchangeably). The expected window for completion is up to 5 weeks after the final grade deadline.
- This mostly comes into play for those attempting to test or submit paperwork for licensure. Please note that ASU has within 5 weeks after your last grade posts for processing matriculations. Your degree can be conferred anytime within that window.
- For questions or concerns regarding your degree conferment timeline (post-final grade deadline), please reach out to [email protected].
- Diploma: Your actual diploma will not be given to you at the ceremonies. When you apply for graduation, you will list the formal address you would like your diploma to be mailed to once printed.
- To verify if your degree has posted, you can always download your unofficial transcript and look for the "Degree Awarded" date.
- Summer Graduates: If your final term is in the Summer and it includes your last practicum course, please note that the Practicum team uses the absolute last day ASU allows before they submit grades.
- If you are attempting to begin testing for licensure and your state requires your degree to be posted by the time you sit for the test, then add 5 weeks to the last day grades are due, and that is the safest window in which you can schedule your testing with a certain degree of confidence.
As the date of your intended ceremony becomes closer, you may RSVP for commencement and/or convocation within your MyASU page under the Graduation tab.

Pending Graduation Letters
Students wanting letters from ASU stating that their graduation is pending or completed (prior to degree conferment) can access this link to get a letter from the ASU Registrar office. If the letter provided by the ASU Registrar is not sufficient, then send the rejection letter to [email protected] and we will have another one drafted from the School of Social Work. They will only do this for students who have enrolled in their final term courses and have already applied for graduation.
- Make sure you select the "Pending" option if your degree has yet to confer and you need a date stating when your degree will be done.
