As she watched the global refugee crisis unfold during her freshman year at ASU, Brenley felt compelled to take action working with the refugee community in Phoenix. Interning at Refugee Focus gave her a first glimpse at the multidimensional challenges refugees face resettling in the United States--a situation which she resolved to combat. Over two years later, Brenley is the Executive Director of R.I.S.E., an ASU-based tutoring and mentorship organization for refugee youth, of which she has been a part since 2016. She is also working as a Case Management intern at the IRC for the Fall 2018 semester. Through these experiences, Brenley has discovered her greatest passion in life: helping others overcome their personal hardship. Brenley aims to provide academic and professional resources to those who lack the same opportunities she has been afforded. Upon graduation, she plans to work for NGOs that place special emphasis on empowering refugees and internally displaced persons through global economic development initiatives.
