Parent Advocacy Project conducted by Cornelia Best

This project is a result of collaboration with the OGSW intern, Cornelia Best and with the Refugees and Immigrants Community of Empowerment (RICE) agency in North Phoenix to develop a Parent Advocacy Project. Research was conducted with community leaders and a focus group of 14 refugee parents from both Somali and Syrian communities were interviewed. Findings were synthesized and reported back to the community regarding barriers parents confronted with their school age child, rights and responsibilities within the Arizona school system and other communication learning and social needs of their child.
