Trauma Informed Care (TIC)

Trauma-Informed Care explores the integrative organizational approach to engaging individuals with histories of traumatic experiences.

Please join ASU School of Social Work for an exploration of Trauma Informed Care delivered by an Arizona ACEs Consortium Certified Trainer. This course is an integrative organizational approach to engaging individuals with histories of traumatic experiences. According to the SAMHSA Gains Center, whose mission is to “educate criminal justice professionals about the impact of trauma and how to develop trauma-informed responses,” the following definition of trauma-informed care is provided within the framework of the criminal justice and behavioral health system. Additionally, the training will review strategies to implement a trauma-informed approach to other evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing in a variety of settings.

Trainer Information

Jeremiah Kaplan

Jeremiah Kaplan is a Senior Research & Training Specialist for ASU’s Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center (SIRC). He holds degrees in Computer-Aided Drafting & Design and Human Services along with certifications in Instructional Design & Development; Mindfulness Instruction; Communities that Care (CTC) and the social development strategy; eLearning software; Adobe Creative Suite; Database Management (including LMS Administration); as well as Motivational Interviewing. He has been a Motivational Interviewing International Network of Trainers (MINT) member since 2021. He is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor (adult and youth) and has served as Commissioner for the Arizona Supreme Court’s Family Improvement Committee since 2020. His research interests include implementation of evidence-based practices, community-embedded workforce development and evaluation, youth development, and community prevention models.

 

Certifications

Attendees will earn 3 hours of Continuing Education. Certificates are sent by email within 30 days after the training concludes. Please choose the type you require during registration. If no CE type is selected, attendees will be sent a NAADAC certificate.

NAADAC - Addictions Counseling certificate, which is typically accepted by most licensing and certification bodies. 
NASW AZ - Approved by National Association of Social Workers, Arizona Chapter. 
APA - The Training Institute-Southwest Behavioral Health is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
NBCC - The Training Institute-Southwest Behavioral Health has been approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6368.
