Sex Trafficking in Hawai'i: The Stories of Survivors

This study is the second in a series of studies by Arizona State University and the Hawaiʻi State Coalition on the Status of Women funded by the Kaimas Foundation on sex trafficking in Hawaii.  The first study included an exploration of responses by sex buyers to sex advertisements placed online in March 2018, and found a robust demand for online sourced sex selling and an active online sex buyer population in Hawaiʻi. The current study shifts the focus to the experiences of girls and women who have been sex trafficked in Hawaiʻi.  To do this, we conducted face to face interviews with sex trafficking victims and close family members of victims in Hawaiʻi. This report is dedicated to the twenty-two brave people who told their stories of pain and survival.
