Foundational Graduate Certificate in Gerontology
The certificate is designed to enhance the disciplinary competence of graduate students and professionals who want to work more effectively with older adults in a variety of settings.
Please note: Your certificate will not appear on your ASU transcript, but will be mailed to you after verification that you have completed the certificate requirements (see Certificate Completion Procedure).
Foundational Graduate Certificate in Gerontology (9 credits)
- SWG 570/Aging: A Biopsychosocialspiritual Perspective 3 credits (ASU online/fall semester)
- SWG 571/Mental Health Aspects of Aging 3 credits (ASU online/spring semester)
- SWG 591/Aging in Context (new spring 2017) 3 credits (ASU online/spring semester)
- SWG 584/Internship (community-based) 3 credit/240 hours (ASU fall/spring/summer) *
*NOTE: May substitute SWG 541/542, SWG 641/642, or SWG 643/644 if completed in an approved aging setting.
Certificate application procedure
Submit the following materials:
- Certificate Application Checklist
- Completed Department Application for Admission form
- Completed AzGEC Participant Information Form
- Unofficial transcripts (showing completion of undergraduate degree)

Non-degree students
To apply to ASU, go to ASU Graduate Admissions, then click on the link to ASU Admissions Application: Apply Now. When asked, indicate that you are applying for Graduate Non-Degree.
Scroll down to "non-refundable application fee" and "non-refundable late application fee" for current Non-Degree application fees, due dates by semester, and information about late fees. Please note that fees are subject to change.
Tuition for ASU courses will be calculated based upon ASU's resident (for Arizona residents) or non-resident (for non-Arizona residents) Graduate Tuition Rate. Select the Semester and Year during which you plan to register.
Enrolled degree-seeking students
Be sure to discuss your intention to pursue this certificate with your Academic Advisor and Field Education Office professionals, as they can assist you to build eligible certificate requirements into your academic plan.
Certificate completion procedure
Upon the completion of your certificate requirements, please submit the following materials to Academic Services at the address below:

- Unofficial Transcript (showing completion of all certificate requirements)
- Internship Verification Form
